Heather + Scott = Married! | Amy Zellmer, Twin Cities Wedding Photographer

Last month I had the distinct pleasure of photographing Heather and Scott’s wedding. What made this wedding even more special for me was that it was Mandee’s mom’s wedding. Mandee worked for me for over two years and continues to hold a small piece of my heart! (side note: I met Mandee when I photographed her dad’s wedding several years ago! Talk about full circle!!)

Heather and Scott are avid Harley riders and had a Harley themed wedding, including Scott’s processional with about a dozen bikes riding into the parking lot to the tune of “Born To Be Wild”. Heather looked beautiful, and Scott was quite handsome. They were SOOOO happy, it makes my heart swoon when I can see the love sparkling from my couple’s eyes!!

My Newest Tattoo | Amy Zellmer, Artist

This past week I decided to get a permanent reminder tattooed on my left forearm. It is a constant reminder to love myself, unconditionally, ALL.THE.TIME.

This past year was a rough one for me. And there were a few super bumpy months in there, months where I just didn’t know how I was going to continue. Times where I wanted to throw in the towel on love, life, photography, and everything in between. I went through a divorce, I dated a few liars, cheaters, creepers, and weirdos, I had some crazy psycho clients, I had “friends” stab me in the back (seriously, who needs enemies with friends like that?! I wasn’t sure whether to keep my studio or move it into my home, I lost a fabulous employee and friend. I didn’t know how I was going to manage my business and homelife all on my own. I was all alone for the first time in pretty much my entire life.  I was on the brink of losing my mind.

Sometimes you need to hit rock bottom in order to see what’s really important in your life. I am surrounded by AMAZING friends and family. I had people looking out for me constantly. True friends who had my back no matter what I did or was going through. They were there for me and loved me unconditionally. Yet, I wasn’t allowing myself to love myself. I saw this ugly, dark, bitchy, stupid, run-down person staring back at me in the mirror. I had really lost my way and it scared me, a lot.

I am really good at hiding my emotions and what is eating away at me from others. I have learned over the last few months that I need to just let go, and allow others who want to help me to do that! And I have learned to love myself again. I know that I am awesome, talented, beautiful, charming, witty, smart, funny, oh the list goes on. But I do really need a permanent and constant reminder of that. Hence why I tattooed “Love” on my arm where I see it all day long.

It is beautiful and sexy, and I am so happy that I decided (rather randomly) to have it done. It’s a positive message to me and to anyone who sees it.

Thanks to Edsel at Lucky Linda’s Tattoo Parlor in Shakopee 🙂

Twin Cities Pride | Amy Zellmer Photographer

I had the honor and pleasure of being asked to come aboard as lead photographer for the Twin Cities Pride commitment ceremony booth this past weekend! A few months ago I was approached by a fellow photog to see if I would be interested knowing my passion for supporting Gay Marriage rights. It was an instant connection and something I knew I wanted to do ~ had to do ~ felt called to do.

I met with Simon Stromberg, fellow photog and volunteer of {MN LOVE} to coordinate details. I pulled in Julie Lyford of Fabulous Functions to help gather flowers, officiants, and anything else we might need. I asked a few of my photog friends to help with shooting the ceremonies and had an amazing crew with Liana Kvidera, Toni Johnson, and Shannon Erickson. I also give shout-outs to Christine and Patti who helped with administrative stuff at the booth!! We couldn’t have done it without all of you!! Thank you, each and every one, from the bottom of my heart!! I am so truly blessed to be surrounded by such amazing people 🙂

Over the weekend we photographed and united 19 amazing LGBT couples. It was so beautiful to witness, each couple was truly happy and in love. We heard some amazing stories and saw some fabulous outfits! We even had the pleasure of being crashed by the Drag Queen Brides Maids!!

This was my first experience attending Twin Cities Pride and it was truly amazing!! I am so proud of MN and truly believe we will be the first state the VOTE NO on the amendment this November!!

Boudoir Concept Shoot | Twin Cities Boudoir Photographer

I had the pleasure of photographing an amazing Boudoir concept shoot a few weeks ago!! I got the idea when one of my fellow photogs offered up her property to me to photograph on, and I asked her what she thought of my idea. Well, she loved it and the rest is history! I put out a call for models on my Facebook page, and had no problem finding these three amazing ladies!! Mariah, Cody, and Mellissa were former clients of mine so it was SO easy to work with them again on this project.

A Concept Shoot is something that us photographers do on occasion to get our creative juices flowing, and to build up relationships with other industry vendors. We brought in some awesome people that made the shoot AMAZING!!!

Flirt Boutique of St. Paul supplied the beautiful lingerie
Sarah Elizabeth supplied the awesome hair and makeup
Laurie  Smith supplied the gorgeous jewelry
Donae Cotton supplied the most fantastic scenery and photography assitance
Custom Creations Photography supplied lead photography

Personally, I am a HUGE advocate of Boudoir Photography. I believe every single woman deserves to feel beautiful, sexy, confident, and gorgeous! I am SO incredibly tired of hearing women say things like “i’m too fat” “I could never do a session like that” “I don’t have the body for that” “i’m too old for that” because you know what?!?! It’s just an EXCUSE!!! I have had every shape, size, age, and race come thru my studio. I have had size 0-30. I have had women up to the age of 57 (that I know of). If they can do it, I KNOW YOU CAN!!

Of course it is a little nerve wracking to take your clothes off and parade around in a skimpy outfit in front of a stranger (ME), but I promise you, after 2-3 minutes you will be totally fine! I have never had a client who was still nervous after we got started. and you know what? they actually had a TON OF FUN!!

Everyone wants to feel sexy and glamorous, let me help you find that!!!! Call today to schedule your Sexy Little Session!!!

Wedding Pricing | Twin Cities Wedding Photographer

I have been photographing weddings since 1997 and absolutely LOVE working with brides and grooms on their most special day!!  The joy, love, and emotions that ooze out of the couples make my heart sing 🙂 It is always such a happy, joyous day and it is truly infectious. I have been known to shed a tear or two during a ceremony or first sight photos!! I love getting to know my clients….. many have become great friends over the years!!

My journey in photography began at a very young age. I always knew I wanted to be a photographer, and took my dream to the next level in 1997 when I decided to start photographing weddings. In 2004 I officially opened my first storefront studio in Shakopee, moved to St. Paul in 2013, and I haven’t looked back once! I love what I do and the people I work with!! I have amazing clients and awesome employees who help me with my workflow! I describe my style as traditional with a modern twist, I strive to capture the details and emotions in your wedding day, as well as creating stunning images you will cherish for a lifetime!

In 2011 I was named Third Place Wedding Photographer of the Year by the Twin Cities Professional Photographers Association, as well as Second Place Wedding Photographer of the Year in 2010. In 2014 two of my photos were accepted into the Twin Cities Pride Juried Art Exhibit! I have also won numerous awards for my individual wedding images and wedding album designs. I am actively seeking out education to stay on the cutting edge of our industry.

If you hire me to photograph your wedding trust in the fact that I have:
– 15 years experience,
– technical know-how,
– backup equipment,
– the ability to wear many hats (I have had to fix broken tuxes and shoes, put flowers on the groomsmen, fix a cake, act as wedding coordinator, and so much more!!)
– I will do my best to keep everyone in check and on schedule, and have no problem taking control of the situation if a groomsman or family member gets unruly 😉

I also want to make it very clear that I am a gay marriage supporter, and my studio is LGBT friendly! I have a lesbian sister and proudly support and love her <3 and was honored to photograph her legal marriage on Aug. 2, 2014!!

I also absolutely LOVE to travel and would love to chat with you about your destination wedding. It may actually be more affordable than you think!!

I would LOVE to chat with you about your wedding, and what it is you’re looking for in a wedding photographer. A Photographer’s Play-Time in Vegas | Amy Zellmer

A Photographer’s Play-Time in Vegas
This past week I had the pleasure of joining approximately 12,000 fellow photogs in Las Vegas for our annual convention of   WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) . This was my fourth year attending with my awesome professional lab,   Northwest Professional Color . I was fortunate to spend a week with the greatest lab owners in the world, Susan and Andy Rau; along with Greg Carlock and Martin Grahame-Dunn in an MGM Sky Loft !!

Each night we hosted a hospitality night and photoshoots in our Loft, and I was able to photograph some outstanding models, including America’s Got Talent   Seth Grabel , who has his own Vegas show at the Roayl House. I also photographed some Vegas Show Girls, a Vegas Belly Dancer, and our beautiful model Keely. We also hosted a photoshoot in Nelson, a ghost town, on Saturday afternoon with about a dozen awesome photographers.

I love spending time with my favorite photographers and friends, and I love learning more and more every year I attend. I love meeting new photographers, and networking and exchanging information and skills. It fuels my creative juices and always leaves me feeling recharged, (although this year it left with me a cold and cough as well LOL) 6 days of running full speed and little sleep take their toll on a gal, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything!!! I can handle a little sickness 😉 It made me long to come home and try out some new techniques and line up clients and models for new sessions and styles that I want to implement! It also inspired me to really kick up my Rock Star 101 teleclass, I know it’s an awesome class and know how much it will help other photographers improve their business and up their game!! I am excited to start making some changes and start kicking some more ass in everything that I have brewing! Be sure to join me for the ride, because it’s going to be EPIC!

While in Vegas I also got to play a little bit! Friday night Susan and Andy took me to see Motley Crue at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel. It was an AMAZING show, they really truly put on a great performance and I am so glad I had the chance to see them! Saturday night I had free VIP tickets to the Vanity Nightclub in the Hard Rock Hotel, and danced to the mixes of nonother than Jersey Shore’s DJ Pauly D. I know it’s cliche, but I was super excited to see him in action! The club was PACKED and I partied it up until 4 a.m. Vegas style!! A gal’s gotta have a little play time before focusing on work in Vegas!!

All in all I had an outstanding trip and came home feeling incredibly blessed knowing I am surrounded by outstanding photographers and friends. Here are some images I created, I hope you find them inspiring!!! (an contrary to popular belief, I actually DO get work done and learn stuff while in Vegas, but yes, I also DO play while I am there!)

Business Headshot Portraits | Twin Cities Photographer

Business Headshot Portraits

I have been crazy busy the past few months with a lot of Business Headshot Portraits. I am a big advocate for professional portraits for your website, business cards, marketing pieces, etc and I am not just saying that because I am a photographer 😉

Your photo usually is the first impression you will make with a potential client, and is so critical in today’s age of internet. People have usually narrowed down their search of a professional to one or two online first, and typically with throw out any cadidates who do not have a professional photo on their site, and have instead opted for the “mug shot” up against a wall in their office.

Do yourself a favor this year and update your professional image with a headshot! We can accomodate you in the studio, or we will come to your business and photograph the entire staff on-location. We are also available to do product shoots, environmental portraits, and oh so much more to help you polish your look and presence online!!

Mason is Two | Shakopee Portrait Photographer

Mason is Two

Little Mr. Mason came in this week for his two year session. I have been photographing him since his mommy was pregnant with him and LOVE watching him grow, and his personality develop!! I have known his mom since back in the day when we worked at Chili’s Eagan together so he is an extra special little client for me!!

His 18 month session was a bit touch-n-go and this session started out the same, but ended up with giggles and laughs a few minutes into it. I just love this random photo that I captured of him running towards me. Sometimes these “happy accidents” turn into some of my favorite fine-art-style photos! We managed to capture a bunch of great images, but this is my fave! Enjoy the sneak peek!

A Beautiful Boudoir Workshop | Twin Cities Boudoir Photographer

A Beautiful Boudoir

This past weekend I had the pleasure of teaching a Boudoir Workshop to a group of 8 fellow photographers in Duluth. The first half of the day I talked about marketing, pricing, sales, products, etc. and the second half of the day involved a model and photoshoot!

Gwen was our AMAZING model for the afternoon and she totally rocked it! I was able to demonstrate lighting and posing techniques to my class and then allowed them to dive in and take some shots of their own to build their portfolios.

I had a really awesome group of photographers and had a blast working with all of them. I am hoping to teach a few more workshops in the Duluth area, as well as surrounding states, in the near future. If you would like to help coordinate a workshop in your area, please contact me!! I would love to connect with you!

Thank you to everyone who attended, who helped with coordinating, and for making my stay in Duluth a BLAST! See you soon 🙂

Jolene’s Body Art Session | Amy Zellmer photographic artist

Jolene’s Body Art Session

There are clients that I become more attached to and feel like I am a part of their lives!! This is definitely one of them!!

Jolene and her family have been clients for almost four years when they were pregnant with their first child, Charlie! I photographed all of Charlie’s First Year and then on his birthday every year since! In 2010 they were expecting their second child and came in for a pregnancy session . I hadn’t heard from them about their newest arrival until David was almost two months old. He was born with a heart defect and was still in the hospital. Would I please come to the hospital to photograph him? Absolutely I will!!! And am I ever glad I did because little David passed away shortly afterwards.

The tattoo on her left leg is David’s footprint from his birth certificate. They are now pregnant with a little baby girl and due the same time that David was born two years ago!! Such an amazing story of happy sadness!! I just love this family!!! Thank you for being a part of my Body Art Project!!
