Kait & Ben | NE Minneapolis | Backyard Wedding

They say that rain on your wedding day is good luck, and these two took the weather in total stride. They were true champs about the rain and didn’t let it damper their spirits one bit.

Kait & Ben were married in their backyard surrounded by their closest friends and family in an intimate ceremony. It was absolutely gorgeous, and the bride was completely stunning in her Leanne Marshall wedding gown.

The sky darkened the rain began just as the bride was about to walk down the aisle. She said to those sitting in their chairs “It’s just a little water, it won’t hurt you!” They weather cleared up just in time for their first dance and toasts, and everyone had an amazing time.

I am truly blessed to have some of the greatest clients in the world, and I can’t wait to watch this couple’s family grow 🙂

Kiera | Photoshoot | Saint Paul

Kiera came in for her photoshoot last week on one of the most gorgeous days! It was beautiful out, and not yet humid and gross!

I know Kiera’s grandmother through my women’s writing group, and it was such a pleasure to get to know her. She is such a great kid, and anytime you can get a 14 year old to giggle and smile you know you’re doing ok!!

We took some outdoor photos on the property, and don’t worry ~~ the train tracks are historic and dead, and we have permission to be on the property!!

Enjoy the sneak peek!!

Prince Tribute Photo | Minneapolis Skyline | Purple Reign

prince, purple rain, purple reign, minneapolis, skyline, purple

Today’s is Prince’s Birthday, and Governor Dayton has declared today is Prince Day in Minnesota in honor of our local legend.

Six weeks ago as I was getting ready to speak at a Rotary group, we were receiving news that someone had been found unresponsive at Paisley Park in Chanhassen, MN. We sat on the edge of our seats for hours, hoping it wasn’t actually Prince.

However, the tragic news would later confirm our fears….. we had lost our purple legend.

Those of you who aren’t from Minnesota might not quite get the full impact of what we felt.

This was a HUGE loss for us, and it shook us to our core. Prince was born and raised in Minneapolis, and chose to stay here and build his Paisley Park empire. I used to drive by it all the time when I lived in the suburbs….. it’s nondescript even though it sits right at the road, and no one would be the wiser to whom lived and recorded music inside.

Prince could have lived anywhere in the world, yet he called Minnesota HOME.

This entire week was been filled with mourning for local legend. Our sports teams all paid tribute to him at their home games, Target Field lit up in purple and played a screening of “Purple Rain” and the Twins released seven doves at their next game; the Wild held a moment of silence and had a purple laser show; corporations turned the Minneapolis skyline purple; First Avenue (home of the movie “Purple Rain”) held all-night dance parties in his honor; theaters showed screenings of “Purple Rain”; and Governor Dayton ordered the 35W bridge to stay lit up in Purple.

While I never met Prince personally, or even attended one of his concerts, I had mad respect for his music and talent. He was a mysterious guy and kept to himself, he expressed himself through his music he literally forged a path all his own. I have enjoyed watching many of his performances on Youtube this past week, with tears running down my cheeks …. we truly lost a talented legend.

He had suffered from childhood epilepsy which caused him to get bullied, so he turned to music and flamboyant clothing and acts to express himself. He is one of the few celebrities of our time that lived in such a quiet, personal bubble and had essentially zero “dirt” on him. He stuck up for the underdog and was an advocate of the arts. Other musicians have been paying tribute to the mighty Prince at their concerts this week, which speaks volumes to how much of an influence Prince truly was on the music industry.

His presence will be missed all around the world, however, here in Minnesota, we are taking his loss harder, more personal.

I felt compelled to take my camera and record the moment in time, it felt like something I had to do. My friend Jill drove as we tried to navigate the dark streets of Minneapolis in the pouring rain. We were just about to give up, as we couldn’t quite find the spot we were looking for and the rain was relentless. As we were making our final pass on the U of M campus we missed the turn we needed. I told Jill to veer left in an attempt to turn around, but when we turned the corner — the view literally took our breath away ….. and the rain ceased.

I believe this was Prince guiding us to the perfect spot!!

This photo is my tribute to the purple one, and was featured on National Geographic’s site as well as it was also trending on social media. I am quite thrilled with how it turned out, and believe that Prince would definitely approve…. not only of my image, but of the mad respect and love that Minneapolis has shown him.

Rest in peace, sweet Prince.

The MN American Marketing Association | Corporate Headshots | Saint Paul Photographer

I had the pleasure of photographing the board of directors corporate headshots for the Minnesota chapter of the American Marketing Association (MNAMA).

I went on-site to their board meeting on a Monday evening in Edina and captured their headshots outside on the deck. It was a gorgeous day and the perfect backdrop for their images! I am very happy with how they turned out, and am looking forward to a continued relationship with the association.

They have treated me very good over the past few years, and I was thrilled to be able to return the favor!

Jennifer & Kevin | Couple’s Intimate Portrait Session | Twin Cities Portrait Photographer

One of my regular clients contacted me about doing a couple’s session with her husband for their anniversary! I was so excited!!

I get a lot of inquiries, but unfortunately many couple’s don’t go through with it. Sometimes it’s the guy, and sometimes it’s the woman who doesn’t want to do it. There are always a lot of questions ahead of time, and I do my very best to assure them it will be fun, laid-back, and easy!

Jen & Kevin’s photos turned out GREAT!! They were very happy with them, and it was fun to hear that Kevin was excited to see them. If you’re thinking about a session, learn more about Couple’s Intimate Portrait Sessions HERE.

Liz & Ed | Washington DC Portrait Photography

I had the privilege and honor of getting to know these two amazing people while I was in Washington DC. They graciously opened up their home to me, a complete Lized1stranger, to stay with them for a week while I was out there advocating for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and concussion awareness.

We did a photoshoot in their gorgeous, historic apartment in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria, VA. The background full of books fully represents Ed, and adds so much depth and character to the image!

Their dog, Bucky, got along swimmingly with little Miss Pixxie….. even when she stole his doggie bed. I had to include him in a few of the shots, as one never knows how many days they have left with a fur baby.

Liz and Ed are the sweetest couple, and their generosity and kindness was greatly appreciated. I have to say, I believe a friendship was formed, and I look forward to visiting them again next year on my trek out East!

Jenni’s Fitness Shoot | Branding Session | Saint Paul Photographer

Jenni came in this past week for a Fitness Shoot for her business branding. I love doing Branding Sessions, they are so much fun and have a huge impact on a person’s business. Having the right images to use in social media, website, marketing, ebooks, and other products is so critical.

We had a blast photographing her in different outfits; some headshots, some action shots, all the while getting her fitness message across for Jenni Bolton Fitness!
