We’ve moved to St. Paul | Amy Zellmer, photographer

Happy New Year!!!!

2013 is starting off with a bang at Custom Creations Photography, as we are excited to announce to you that we will are officially moved into our new space in St. Paul!!! We are so incredibly excited about this move and can’t wait for you to see our new space!!

Shakopee has been a wonderful place to start and grow the business for the past 10 years, but it is now time to move in a different direction. The new studio is located at 275 E 4th St, which is located in the Lowertown District, which is known as an Artist Community!! The studio space is owned by a wonderful woman named Lisa, who will be the studio manager. We will be sharing space with two other amazing women photographers and couldn’t be happier about this big change!!

The building is located on E 4th and the lightrail will be right outside our building when it is completed sometime next year!! We are within walking distance of the Farmer’s Market, Depot, Mear’s Park, and other great sights!! The studio space is about double what I am currently working in, and allows itself to several different great background set-ups!! There is also a deli and coffee shop located right in our building, along with other great artists!!

As of right now, I will be scheduling sessions on Monday’s and Tuesday’s in the afternoon and evening; as well as Wednesday morning’s through the winter months, with a few vacations scheduled in!!

A Suprise Proposal | Amy Zellmer Photojournalist

I had the distinct honor of being part of a suprise proposal last week!! Nick contacted me and explained what he was up to. His girlfriend was kind of “expecting” it to be coming soon, so he had planned a fake bed & breakfast escape for that coming Sunday. He told his girlfriend he was being featured by his Insurance company in a magazine article about up and coming agents in MN, and his boss was in on the whole plan. His boss recruited a fellow business owner in the building to act as CEO of the Insurance company, who would be conducting an “interview” with Nick after I snapped a few photos of Nick and his girlfriend.

They came in and we all introduced ourselves before I took a couple photos of the couple. Nick then asked “Can we do one more pose?” to which I said “of course” as he got down on  his knee to ask Kimberly to marry him!! She started crying as soon as she realized what he was up to, Nick had hidden the ring in his sock because he knew she would find it otherwise!! After she said yes, there were lots of hugs and then some champagne!!

I am so very honored to have been a part of their very special moment and captured it on film for them to remember the moment forever!!

Help Portrait Minneapolis 12.08.12 | Amy Zellmer Photographer

This past weekend I had the absolute honor of volunteering my time and talents once again to Help Portrait. Help Portrait is a worldwide organization that helps families in need receive a professional portrait, this was the fourth year it has been held in Minneapolis, and my second year volunteering, my first year as a lead photographer.

In Minneapolis we were at three locations, I was volunteering at Mary’s Place, Caring & Sharing Hands. Our location alone provided: 385 people blessed. Yes, you read that right. 3 – 8 – 5 people. We had 10 Lead & Assistant Photographers, 7 documentary photogs/videographers and 23 assistants, greeters, runners, printer/burner/framers, & HMUAs, interpreter. This is a record number for Minneapolis and I am darn proud to have been a part of it.

The family I have featured here was one that deeply touched my heart. They had recently relocated to Minneapolis after the dad lost his job in Atlanta. They have never had a professional portrait taken before, and the little boy was SO super excited. When they saw the images on the computer the mom and dad were just speechless, mom had tears in her eyes as they picked out the 5 images that they would like printed out for them. After they were printed and framed, I talked with them a little bit more. They were SO totally and completely grateful for the gift of a portrait, it really touched me. They both hugged me and little guy gave me a high five. They told me that I totally made their Christmas this year, and that this portrait WAS their Christmas gift!! They couldn’t stop hugging and thanking me!! It really puts into perspective what an impact a photograph can have. This is an image they will cherish forever and ever, and I can’t help but smile knowing that I will always be a small piece of their beautiful family!!

I can’t wait for next year!!

“A picture is worth!”

Herlife Magazine Trendsetter Fashion Shoot | Amy Zellmer

I had the honor of once again photographing the Trendsetter Fashion spread for Herlife Magazine for their November issue!! I absolutely love working with the talented Lindsey Lee, editor of the magazine!! It is such a beautiful full color, glossy magazine featuring local businesses!

This month’s issue a few shout-outs to:
Corsete Styling for providing the clothing and styling
Wehmann Modeling agency for providing the beautiful models
Simonson’s Salon for providing hair and makeup
The Brownstone’s on France for the AMAZING location!!
and of course photography by Amy Zellmer 🙂

I feel blessed to have had such wonderful opportunities to work with such awesome magazine publications, models, business owners, and other outstanding women in the Twin Cities!! I love what I do and can’t imagine doing anything else!! It has taken me 15 years to get where I am at, and I am darn proud of it!! 🙂  It’s a pretty amazing thing to walk onto the set of a shoot and have the people you are about to photograph squeal in excitement that I am their photographer ~ that they have heard and seen me and my work all over the Cities!! Makes a gal all warm and fuzzy I tell ya!!

Equality of LOVE ~ Mandee & Paige | VOTE NO MN

This is a story of love. Two people in love. Two women in love. Two women who one day wish to legally marry each other.

I have known Mandee since I photographed her dad’s wedding in 2008. I also photographed her mom’s wedding in 2012 (where these images were taken). Mandee and Paige have been a couple for over two years, and have talked about marriage. But sadly, they aren’t able to legally marry in the state of MN. and this November we are faced with an amendment vote that would change our State Constitution to define marriage as “one man and one woman”. This is so incredibly wrong on so many levels. We live in the land of the free, land of equality. By putting this into our constitution we would be limited freedoms to a large population. We would be moving backwards instead of forwards. Regardless of your religious beliefs, you have GOT to believe in “freedom for all”………

Back in 2008, I knew there was something about Mandee that made me think our paths would cross again. In June of 2009 I hired her as an office assistant and she worked for me for two and a half years. During that time, she met Paige. I had the pleasure of watching her fall head over heels in love with Paige. They truly have one of the most solid and loving relationships I have seen. They have had their ups and downs as all couples do, but they are willing to do whatever it takes to resolve their problems. When she met Paige, I just knew she was “the one” for Mandee. They have this easy style between them (and can share each others clothes!). I can only hope to find a man to complete me the way these two complete each other!!

When one is sick, the other makes soup. When one is feeling down, the other lifts them up. When one has a success, the other cheers in joy. They are the epitomy of  “for better or worse”. They love each other unconditionally. They want to marry each other one day (legally). They want to have the same rights and resources and “straight people”. They deserve every bit of equality that I am allowed. PLEASE, I beg you, VOTE NO on Nov. 6th. It’s the right thing to do!

Brett’s Senior Photos | Shakopee Portrait Photographer

I had the great pleasure of photographing Brett’s senior photos this month. I photographed his sister Megan’s photos almost 4 years ago already! Time seriously FLIES by!! He is a senior at Shakopee High School.

Brett brought his football and hockey gear so I decided it would be fun to do some dramatic lighting with it, and I am so glad I did! When he came in and saw his football image on the big screen he said it was “sick!”

He was so much fun and so easy to work with!! I loved how all of his images turned out, and am excited to share them with you!!
